Kevin Struthers directed the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ jazz programming for three decades. On Sept. 10, he was fired. It was the latest in an ongoing outflow of staffers and associates that began when convicted felon and President Donald Trump assumed control of the Kennedy Center in February.

The reason for Struthers’ termination remains unknown. The Center declined to give a reason to the Washington Post when it reported the story on Sept. 11 and has not returned City Paper’s request for comment. When Swing Beat called Struthers to ask, he answered the phone with a chuckle—like he was expecting the call.

He confirmed that his employment had been terminated after 30 years.

“Did you sign a non-disclosure agreement?” I asked.

“No comment,” Struthers said.
