Shillong, Sept 26: The Meghalaya High Court has transferred a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) case concerning stray dogs to the Supreme Court, following a directive from the apex court.

The case, PIL No. 4 of 2024, was pending before the High Court, which had retained the matter due to its peculiar nature.

The Supreme Court, in its order dated August 22, 2025, directed that all writ petitions from High Courts on the issue of stray dogs be transferred to the Supreme Court for analogous consideration.

The division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice HS Thangkhiew and Justice W Diengdoh has now recalled its earlier order (dated August 30, 2025) and directed the registry to transmit the records of the PIL to the Supreme Court at the earliest.
