Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 30% of his match fees for aggressive behaviour during the Asia Cup Super 4s match against India last Sunday. His teammate, Sahibzada Farhan, received only a warning for his controversial celebration after scoring a half-century in the same match.
The decision was made following hearings conducted by match referee Richie Richardson at the Pakistan team hotel. Both players had pleaded not guilty to the charges of making provocative gestures, which were raised in a formal complaint by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Rauf's actions included mocking Indian fans with gestures about falling planes, which were deemed "aggressive and unacceptable." Farhan's celebration, which resembled an open-air gunshot, was considered offensive but did not result in a financial penalty.
The disciplinary hearings took place after a series of complaints exchanged between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the ICC regarding the conduct of players from both teams. Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian captain, was also fined 30% of his match fees for comments made after a previous match, which were interpreted as political.
As tensions remain high between the two cricketing rivals, they are set to face each other again in the final of the Asia Cup on Sunday.
