A woman sustained life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle in East Boston Thursday afternoon, police said.

Police went to the area of Meridian and Saratoga streets for a report of a pedestrian struck around 2 p.m. Thursday, said Officer Mark Marron, a Boston Police spokesman, in an email. There, officers found the woman with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The woman was taken to a hospital by Boston Emergency Medical Services, Marron said.

Due to the severity of the woman’s injuries, homicide detectives assigned to the Fatal Collision Team responded to the scene, Marron said.

The person driving the vehicle remained at the scene after the collision, and no arrests have been made, Marron said.

The crash remains under investigation.
