Police at Mponela in Dowa District have arrested a 45-year-old driver, Chikumbutso Saka, for causing death by reckless driving.

Mponela Police Station spokesperson Macpatson Msadala confirmed the development, identifying the deceased as Edwin Abraham, 35, from Kawaza Village, Senior Chief Mponela in Dowa.

According to Msadala, Saka was driving a Hino lorry loaded with bags of maize from Mponela heading towards Lilongwe. Upon reaching Chikho Hotel, he hit a motorcycle ridden by Abraham, who was carrying a pillion passenger, Pikilosi William, 40.

Abraham died on the spot due to severe head injuries, while William sustained head injuries, a fractured right arm, and bruises on both hands.

Police say Saka will appear in court soon to answer charges of causing death by reckless driving.
