Roksana Lecka, a nursery worker, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for abusing 21 babies while under the influence of drugs. The shocking case came to light after police bodycam footage captured her arrest, during which she appeared to smirk. Lecka was convicted of multiple counts of cruelty against children under the age of 16 at Kingston Crown Court.
The abuse occurred over a nine-month period, with her youngest victim being just ten months old. Lecka admitted to seven counts of child cruelty and was found guilty of an additional 14 counts by a jury. Parents of the victims delivered emotional statements in court, condemning her actions as “sickening” and labelling her the “worst kind of human.”
During the trial, jurors were shown disturbing footage of Lecka kicking a baby boy in the face, delivering four blows to his head before stepping on his shoulder and kicking him again. Family members in the public gallery reacted with audible gasps as the footage was played.
Lecka was found to have smoked cannabis before her shifts, and CCTV footage revealed her vaping near a young baby. In the arrest footage, she is seen smiling as officers inform her of the allegations against her. When questioned during her police interview, she repeatedly answered “no comment” and appeared disinterested, even when asked about the injuries she inflicted on the children.
The abuse was uncovered after parents and staff noticed bruises and scratches on the children. Investigators reviewed CCTV footage from the nursery, which showed Lecka pinching and scratching the children, causing them to cry. She was also seen pushing babies headfirst over cots and covering a toddler's mouth when he cried.
Detective Inspector Sian Hutchings from the Met Police’s Public Protection Command stated, “Today’s sentencing concludes a complex and emotional investigation. The victims in this case are just babies, with the youngest being just 10 months at the time of the offences.”
Lecka's actions took place at two nurseries between October 2023 and June 2024, including Little Munchkins in Hounslow and Montessori Riverside Nursery in Twickenham, which has since closed. Detective Sergeant Geoff Boye noted that the footage showed Lecka carrying out multiple assaults, including pinching, grabbing, and physically harming the children in her care.
