Brighton, N.Y. — A man wanted for murder who was the subject of a massive search in the Adirondacks was captured Friday morning.

Anthony G. Bechand, 53, of Cohoes, is in custody, State Police spokesperson Jack Keller confirmed.

Bechand was found walking along Route 86 near Paul Smith’s College at about 7:30 a.m., troopers said in a news release. They had received a tip about a suspicious man.

He was captured by troopers and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

The search started Sept. 14 after police in Cohoes found Amanda Rodriguez, 41, of Cohoes, dead inside a residence. She was Bechand’s girlfriend.

Troopers said Bechand fled the scene and was wanted for her murder.
