The Cuban Foreign Ministry announced on Friday the death of U.S. citizen and fugitive Joanne Deborah Byron, better known as "Assata Shakur."

Shakur was on the FBI's most wanted terrorist list.

She died Thursday in Havana, Cuba, due to "health problems and advanced age."

"On September 25, 2025, American citizen Joanne Deborah Byron, 'Assata Shakur,' passed away in Havana, Cuba, as a result of health conditions and her advanced age," the Cuban Foreign Ministry said through its X account .
