EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — The Evansville Police Department has issued a warning about a rise in scams where fraudsters impersonate bank officials to steal personal information.

These scammers may use caller ID spoofing to appear as if they are calling from your bank, claiming there is a fraudulent charge on your account. They may ask for sensitive details like your social security number, card number, or online login info.

Authorities emphasize the importance of never sharing personal information such as your social security number, card details, online banking login, or six-digit multi-factor authentication code.

If you receive such a call or text, contact your bank directly using a trusted phone number or visit in person to verify and secure your account.
