The third Hog Island Race was sailed on yet another glorious Cape day. Sunday dawned chilly and clear with light breeze from the northeast, but throughout the morning, warmth and wind filled in. The tide was ebbing from high at 8 AM. With the imminent arrival of official fall, it seemed important to take advantage of this sunny, mild day with plenty of water still, to set a long challenging course. Given the east-northeast wind, the skippers would mostly sail back and forth between South Cove and Snug Harbor with a jaunt out toward the breakwater in the middle. They would finish upwind near Town Dock.

A smaller fleet of 11 boats gathered in South Cove as the committee got itself situated. At the end of the sequence, Jane O’Connor and Steve Kirk were both on course side in the final minute
