The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will pay a heartfelt tribute to late Assamese music legend Zubeen Garg during the inauguration of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, scheduled for September 30 in Guwahati.

BCCI joint secretary Debajit Lon Saikia told the media that the opening match and the inauguration ceremony are being jointly hosted by the BCCI and the Assam Cricket Association (ACA). Host India will take on Sri Lanka in the opening clash at the ACA Stadium.

Saikia said the inauguration was initially planned as a grand celebration, but in light of Zubeen Garg’s sudden demise in Singapore on September 19, the BCCI decided to scale down the festivities. Instead, a 40-minute musical tribute will be dedicated to the beloved singer.
