Forget lawnmowers and weed whackers. The City of Dallas is teaming up with local groups to use goats for its latest park project.

Starting next week, more than 450 goats will be hard at work at The Woods at Valley View Park, located off LBJ Freeway and Hillcrest.

The herd will be tasked with clearing thick overgrowth along the neighborhood hiking trail, much of it fueled by this year’s record-setting rains.

The project, called “goatscaping,” is a joint effort between The Loop Dallas, Open Space Texas, and the Dallas Park and Recreation Department.

Instead of relying on noisy machinery or harsh chemicals, the initiative uses goats to naturally remove invasive plants, improve trail visibility, and create a safer, more welcoming space for the public.
