More than half of Labour voters believe the country is heading in the wrong direction , new polling has shown.

A survey of people who voted for Labour in 2024 showed that 56 per cent believe the country is not on the right track, on the eve of the Labour Party conference in Liverpool .

Worryingly for Sir Keir Starmer, nearly three-quarters – 72 per cent – of voters polled shared the same opinion, according to a new YouGov poll for the pro-European think tank Best for Britain.

The survey of around 4,000 people earlier this month, shows just how far Labour’s popularity has fallen just 14 months after it swept to an historic victory.

In recent weeks, Starmer has been beset by resignations, sackings and threats to his leadership .
