A well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression on Friday, raising the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall along the coastal regions of Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh.
The depression lay centred over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal near latitude 19.3°N and longitude 86.1°E. It was positioned about 60 km south-southeast of Puri, 130 km east of Gopalpur, 130 km south-southwest of Paradip, and 230 km east-northeast of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Meteorologists have forecast that the system is likely to move nearly westwards and make landfall close to Gopalpur on the morning of September 27, 2025.
