LEXINGTON, Ky. —

On Friday morning, in Fayette County District Court, Laken Snelling waived her right to a preliminary hearing, opting instead to have her case be sent directly to a grand jury.

Snelling, a former University of Kentucky student and member of the school's STUNT team, is facing multiple charges, including concealing the birth of an infant and abuse of a corpse.

Snelling is the dead child's mother.

In the courtroom Friday, about 10 young women attended the hearing in support of Snelling. All declined WLKY’s request for comment.

According to police, on Aug. 27, officers were dispatched to an apartment just off the UK campus for a report of an unresponsive infant. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
