SAGINAW, MI — An illicit gun sale a block from a Saginaw elementary school went awry when the alleged seller suffered a fatal bullet wound to his chest. As the victim fell into a pile of snow on a gray February afternoon, his accused shooter fled in a vehicle.
Neither the victim nor his alleged killer had reached their 21st birthdays before the violence ended one’s life and stained the other’s.
The nearby school’s surveillance cameras recorded the shooting and the killer’s flight, footage of which was played during the Sept. 26 preliminary examination of 16-year-old Vincent M. Barrera. Despite his youth, Barrera is charged as an adult with open murder and felony firearm stemming from the death of Taylor M. “Tay” Burton, 20 .
