An 8-year-old boy has died after a swing set fell on top of him at his mom's house in Missouri

Police and family said Cortez Williams Jr., also known as CJ, initially seemed to have only sustained minor injuries from the incident, but later became unresponsive

The boy, who was supposed to celebrate his 9th birthday next month, later died at a hospital

An 8-year-old boy has died after a swing set collapsed on top of him at a home in Missouri.

The incident occurred in the 11300 block of Larimore Road around 6 p.m. local time on Sunday, Sept. 21, the St. Louis County Police Department said in a press release .

Officers from the North County Precinct who responded to the scene and located an 8-year-old boy, identified as Cortez Williams Jr., “who was not responsive.”
