A lucky Canadian trio from Alberta have struck it big, winning $250,000 from a lottery ticket they had purchased together.

Beaumont resident Guido Poitras, Salvatore Ferrari of Edmonton, and Thorsby resident Loretta Lemky occasionally play the game together, but the trio had never won, until now.

Their win came as a surprise after Poitras decided to check the results of the ticket online, confirming that they had just won a whopping $250,000.

“I checked to see if anyone in Alberta had won and then checked our numbers four times!” Poitras said when speaking with Lotto Spot.

Excited to share the “unbelievable” news, Poitras called his friends, but neither Ferrari nor Lemky answered. He left them each a voicemail, telling them that they had secured the big win.
