John Thune , the Senate majority leader and Republican from South Dakota, said he believes decisions about health "ought to be grounded in science" after he was asked about President Donald Trump's claim linking autism to Tylenol use.

Trump promoted an unproven link between Tylenol and a rise in autism among children during a Sept. 22 news conference with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. , USA TODAY reported. The Food and Drug Administration will notify doctors that the use of acetaminophen — Tylenol's active ingredient — is associated with an increased risk of autism and that women should avoid it during pregnancy, Trump said.
