Recently, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth (aka Secretary of War Pete Hegseth) announced that the shaving exemption which has been in place for many years is being terminated ( “Pentagon mandates clean-shaven standards for military men after rapid review,” Sept. 17).

Apparently, facial hair is not evidence of a warrior image even though Union generals like Ulysses S. Grant, William Tecumseh Sherman, George Meade and Winfield Scott did pretty well with their follicles.

If Hegseth grows some whiskers, perhaps he would be a little more appreciated.
