The Chinese military is now thought to be a direct beneficiary of brain data from some of the world’s top athletes.

BrainCo, a company in China that makes FocusCalm headbands, has been accused of stealing said data following a telling investigation.

The company’s headbands record athletes’ brainwaves and have been used by several notable ones across multiple disciplines, including Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc, tennis stars Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek, American skier Mikaela Shiffrin, and the U.S. and Italian Olympic teams.

Manchester City players and Super Bowl champion Logan Ryan, who used to be a spokesperson for BrainCo, have also used the bands.
