Aaron Sorkin has been moving forward with a (loose) follow-up to The Social Network for some time, but Sony Pictures has made it official with a title, release date, and complete cast. While discussion of a follow-up to The Social Network had been floated since 2019, it was not until June 2025 that the film's original scribe, Sorkin, confirmed he was both writing and directing a follow-up to the Academy Award-nominated picture. Since then, rumors have circulated that recent Best Actress winner Mikey Madison would star in the film, which would center on the details revealed in the 2021 "The Facebook Files" Wall Street Journal articles that exposed Facebook's awareness of the harmful societal effects of the social media platform.
