Jammu, Sept 26: The power consumers in Jammu and Kashmir will be required to pay in advance for electricity consumption from November this year as the government has announced plans to make all smart metered areas fully prepaid.

“We are in the process of converting all smart metered areas in J&K to a fully pre-paid system, and the transition is expected to be completed by November,” Chief Engineer, Power Development Department (PDD), KK Thappa, told Rising Kashmir.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that data for all power consumers across J&K is being updated, and various parameters are being assessed to facilitate the shift to a fully prepaid system.

Once implemented, consumers will need to recharge their accounts in advance to continue receiving power.
