AVON, Ohio (WJW) -- Several Northeast Ohio communities are shifting trick-or-treat this year to avoid conflicts with Friday night high school football.
In Avon, trick-or-treat has been moved to Thursday, Oct. 30, instead of Halloween night. Mayor Bryan Jensen said the change was made to prevent traffic problems near the stadium and to avoid forcing kids to choose between football and candy.
“Anybody that has gone to a game knows the student sections are filled,” Jensen said. “Cars are parked all around. Anyone who lives near the stadium knows there’s no way trick-or-treat could happen.”
He added: “The children would have to make the choice between going trick-or-treating or going to the game. I didn’t want them burdened with that decision, so I made the choice to move it.”
