STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Losing his father at such a young age left Pete Davidson searching for guidance in unexpected places, and often, in older men he met through comedy.
During an appearance Tuesday on comedian Theo Von’s “This Past Weekend” podcast, the Staten Island native reflected on how tragedy forced him to grow up quickly after his father, FDNY firefighter Scott Davidson, died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Davidson was just 7 years old at the time .
“When you go through a tragedy that young, your brain is older,” Davidson said. “I always felt like I was older in school where like, when that happened, kids would be like, ‘You want to have a pool party?’ And I’m like, ‘No, I want to smoke cigarettes and cry.’ That innocence is kind of taken away really fast.”
