The Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in the Broomfield area had the highest number of safety-related incidents in the 29 million square miles that make up the United States national airspace system, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

“Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport currently leads the National Airspace System (NAS) in the number of Potentially Significant Events (PSEs), which include both runway incursions and airborne safety incidents,” the memo, sent to the Daily Camera by Superior Mayor Mark Lacis and dated June 10, reads.

The roughly 29 million square miles of the national airspace system includes a network of both controlled and uncontrolled airspace, both domestic and oceanic, according to the FAA’s website.
