PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The gathering will be on Robins Green at the college’s Port Angeles campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Also known as Orange Shirt Day, the day of reconciliation is a time to reflect, remember and honor children who were removed from their families and forced into residential and boarding schools in both Canada and the United States.

The gathering will be co-hosted by Migizi Miigwan, a professor of integrated indigenous studies at the college, who will share a brief history of the American Indian Boarding Schools, including her grandmother’s lived experience.

Students from the college’s First Nations Club will offering their voices and perspectives during the ceremony.
