COLUMBIA, S.C. (WJBF) — South Carolina's price gouging law is now in affect as the state braces for heavy rain and flooding.

Attorney General Alan Wilson says it protects consumers from unfair price hikes on food, gas, lodging, and other essentials during emergencies.

Normal price changes aren't gouging.

But anyone taking advantage could face a $1,000 dollar fine or 30 days in jail.
