On the weekend of Aug. 29, there was a milestone reunion of the Alberni District Secondary School class of 1970 at the Best Western Barclay Hotel.

The event was held in the hotel's large banquet room, decorated with newspaper clippings, yearbooks and all types of memorabilia. On Friday evening there was a meet and greet with 110 attending, on Saturday evening there were 100 who attended.

According to a 1990 AV Times edition there were 172 who attended that year's reunion.

On Saturday evening there was a dinner and dance with music provided by Broken Record Entertainment’s Mark Scheffers. They had a video presentation of the class of 1970 and the classmates who have passed away, as well as a nostalgic tour around the town in 1969 -1970.
