Yesterday at around 9:30 in the morning on West Hawthorne Street ,a man broke into a home and woke up a woman threatening her life and carrying a gun.

After a heated confrontation the man went into the upstairs of the house and fell asleep.

The woman was able to escape but an elderly resident was left inside the house.

The Eureka Police Department responded to the scene and surrounded the house in a standoff that would last for more than a dozen hours.
