The term "cult classic" is vague by nature, and often loosely defined. Broadly speaking, though, these are films on the fringes of the mainstream that, with time, build up a fan following so loyal and intense that it's cult-like. Whether it's a terrible film or an underrated great one, a box office flop or a modest success, a Hollywood effort or an indie international flick, there are plenty of cult classics out there.
But while many cult classics have more than enough fans (that is, after all, what made them a cult classic), there are others that aren't raved about nearly enough nowadays . These are still undeniably cult films, but in a fair world, they would have a significantly bigger following re-watching them at midnight at their local indie theater every year.
