What we learned

Tulane is ready for a vigorous pursuit of its second American Conference title in four years and its fourth consecutive title-game appearance. The Green Wave was far from perfect in its league opener but has every ingredient needed to compete for a championship. Playmaking quarterback? Check. Jake Retzlaff made some clutch throws. Big-time running back? Check. Freshman Javin Gordon was really impressive. Functional receivers? Check. They had easily their best game of the year. Combine those ingredients with an aggressive defense that registered six sacks and 13 tackles for loss, and the Wave will enter its bye week in good shape.
