The NFL announced the halftime performer for this year's Super Bowl, with singer Benito Ocascio -- better known as Bad Bunny -- taking the spot. It's the first Super Bowl performance for the Puerto Rican rapper, actor and producer. The Latin artist has three Grammy wins on nine nominations, and it's certain to be an incredible show.
According to reports from the Sports Business Journal, the league attempted to get pop star Taylor Swift to perform the halftime show with no success. With her new album The Life Of A Showgirl releasing October 3 and an engagement to Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, Swift would have been a huge get for Super Bowl LX in San Francisco in February. But the 14-time Grammy winner allegedly walked away when the NFL wouldn't allow her to retain ownership of the performance footage.
Performers aren't paid for Super Bowl halftime shows, instead are offered "exposure" for their set. As Swift is likely doing more for the NFL than vice versa, that offer isn't particularly lucrative. Swift also spent years working to get full ownership of her music and performances, so the idea of surrendering any content isn't going to sound appealing.
The Sports Business Journal said singer Adele was also considered as a headliner for this year's Super Bowl.
