(KRON) -- Authorities are offering up to a $20,000 reward for information after a man was seen decapitating a dead sea lion in Monterey County, NOAA Fisheries announced Monday.

The incident occurred on July 27 around 8:40 p.m. at Point Pinos Beach in Pacific Grove. NOAA Fisheries’ Office of Law Enforcement said that a man, who appears to be in his late 50s to early 60s, used a hunting knife to saw off the head of a deceased California sea lion.

After removing the head, the man placed it in a plastic zipper bag and left in a newer model white Cadillac Escalade, NOAA Fisheries said.

The suspect was further described by law enforcement as approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and bald with a full beard. NOAA Fisheries released a photo of the suspect on Monday.
