A Kansas City woman has been charged after allegedly beating a man to death with a hammer and lighting the apartment on fire a week later.

Dianna A. Brown has been charged with second-degree murder, second-degree arson, armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence, Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced Monday. Advertisement

The Kansas City Fire Department responded to a fire just before 1 a.m. Sept. 19 near Kensington Avenue and Independence Avenue.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered a man's body inside an apartment. The man was reportedly lying on a bed frame with severe burns, head trauma and some signs of decomposition, court documents said.
