Shopify merchants will pay a small fee to OpenAI if their products are purchased through the platform, the ChatGPT developer says.

Shares in Shopify Inc. SHOP-T jumped more than 5 per cent on the Toronto Stock Exchange Monday, after the company said its merchants will soon be able to sell products directly to users of the generative artificial intelligence platform ChatGPT.

ChatGPT users will be able to enter a prompt requesting help finding an item directly within the app, and be provided with a range of options listed on the Canadian e-commerce company’s Shop app, as well as products listed by online marketplace Etsy.
