MACON, Ga. — A Mercer Volleyball player has died after a battle with bone cancer.

The Mercer Volleyball team posted on Sunday that teammate Aliyah Waldon had lost her battle with cancer.

"Our hearts are extremely heavy tonight as the entire Mercer community mourns the passing of Aliyah 'Ali' Waldon," the team said in a post on Instagram. "Ali was a tremendous teammate, daughter and friend whose smile could light up Hawkins Arena."

After her diagnosis, Waldon told 13WMAZ it started as minor hip pain that eventually grew unbearable. After getting an MRI, Waldon was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, which is a rare but aggressive bone cancer.

"I was definitely shocked because I was just looking for a tear," Waldon previously told 13WMAZ after her diagnosis.
