Alabama was recently ranked eighth in Area Development magazine's 2025 Top States for Doing Business study.

The 2025 study, released last week, scores states in 14 different categories: speed, sites & permitting; workforce wins; energy, infrastructure & resilience; and business climate & government support.

Bordering states, Georgia and Tennessee, finished first and sixth, respectively. Alabama received high praise in the study for its incentive programs and property tax rates.

Area Development noted, "Incentives still matter. South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio, and Alabama lead this year's rankings in business incentive programs. But consultants caution that even the most generous packages can't make up for weak fundamentals or slow execution."
