The city released a draft of Bozeman’s proposed new development rules this month, teeing up another round of public meetings on the controversial code rewrite.

The city started its rewrite of the unified development code, which lays out guidelines for issues such as zoning districts and building heights and uses, in 2022, and released a draft in the fall of 2023. City commissioners paused review of the draft that October after weeks of pushback from residents.

After another round of public meetings, work sessions and code review in recent months, the city published the new draft code online at engage.bozeman.net/udc on Sept. 19.

“Remember that this is a draft, and drafts can change. This is a living document,” City Manager Chuck Winn said at a City Commission meeting Tuesday.
