BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Department of Veterans Affairs is giving more than $11 million to organizations in the state who support veterans facing homelessness or those who don’t have the resources they need to survive.
The grants will fund three groups in 2026: United Way of Central Alabama, Volunteers of America Southeast, and Hope for All Gulf Coast.
Those groups help veterans and their families find housing, health care, financial planning, child care, legal assistance, and transportation.
Priority Veteran is an assistance program managed by United Way of Central Alabama; they will receive 70% of the funding, around $7.9 million.
So far, this program has helped more than 4,000 veterans make sure they have a safe place to live, and now, they can reach even more.
