Tech giants Meta and Google were among the first stakeholders to meet with the Albanese government's Assistant Treasurer this term as he consults on payments to media companies for using their content.
Assistant Treasurer Daniel Mulino met with the companies within weeks of being sworn into the portfolio, which has carriage of the Albanese government's promised News Media Bargaining incentive, on May 13.
The meetings are detailed in extracts of Mr Mulino's diary, partially redacted to protect cabinet deliberations and provided to The Canberra Times under Freedom of Information laws,
The tax incentive, announced in December, was designed to push the tech giants to strike new deals with news publishers after Meta declined to renew previous, multi-million dollar content agreements.
