CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The price of a gallon of gas in the Palmetto State was up nearly a nickel over the previous week, the latest data from GasBuddy shows.

The average price for a gallon of gas in South Carolina was $2.79, up 4.4 cents over the previous week, according to GasBuddy’s weekly survey of more than 3,000 stations statewide.

Drivers in the state are paying about the same as last month, but are still saving 6.3 cents compared to the average one year ago.

But the slight increase comes as the national average fell 5.8 cents over the previous week, landing at $3.08 per gallon.

The cheapest price in the state was $2.51 per gallon, and the highest was $3.44. The lowest price in the Lowcountry as of Monday morning was $2.54.
