CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (WITN) - Gunmen who police say were responsible for two mass shootings this weekend, including one in North Carolina, both have Camp Lejeune connections with their time stationed there overlapping.

Nigel Edge is described as a “lone wolf” who killed three people and injured five others at a Southport bar, according to police.

The 40-year-old Edge, who also went by Sean Debevoise, was a sergeant in the Marine Corps from 2003 to 2009. The Marine Corps says his last duty assignment was the Wounded Warrior Battalion East at Camp Lejeune. A resume that was part of a lawsuit Edge filed said he was a scout-sniper for the Marine Corps who served in Iraq twice.

Thomas Sanford, the man accused of the shooting and fire at a church in Michigan, also spent time at Camp Lejeune.
