Chicago Cubs pitcher Matthew Boyd will get the ball to start Game 1 of the wild card series against the San Diego Padres.
Boyd was named the starter for the opener by manager Craig Counsell, and will aim to get the Cubs their first postseason victory since Game 4 of the 2017 National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In 31 starts for the Cubs, Boyd posted a record of 14-8 with a 3.21 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP, striking out 154 batters and issuing 42 walks in 179.2 innings of work.
He has appeared in four postseason games during his career, including three starts with the Cleveland Guardians last season. In those three games, Boyd posted a 0.77 ERA, with 14 strikeouts and six walks over 11.2 innings. He allowed just seven hits over that span.
