The Wayne County Commission has approved a $2.2 billion budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year with a day and a half to spare.
"Hopefully we are an example for the federal level and state level on how to pass a budget before the end of the fiscal year," Commission Chair Alisha Bell quipped during Monday's meeting, in reference to ongoing last-minute scrambles in Lansing and Washington, D.C., to break through stalemates to avoid government shutdowns.
