GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Greene County man who pleaded guilty to murdering his ex-wife and their 14-year-old son was sentenced to a total of 120 years on Monday, September 29.

In October of 2024, Joshua Penick killed Samantha Jerrell and their son, Colton, and then buried their bodies in a shallow grave at Bear Run Mine, according to court documents.

“I just put my hands around her neck and wouldn’t let go and buried them in the same grave,” he said, according to court documents.

Penick waived his rights, including his right to counsel, and pleaded guilty to two counts of murder under the negotiated plea agreement in July 2025, according to court documents.
