HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee Highway Patrol said it is investigating a deadly crash that happened on I-81 in Hamblen County.
According to a THP preliminary report, Mason Childers, 21, was driving a Nissan northbound on I-81 on Friday. At around 4:30 p.m., the car went off the right side of the interstate near mile marker 9 and hit an embankment before continuing into the woods.
THP said the car hit a tree, which ripped off the roof of the car before coming to rest in the wooded area.
Childers was killed in the crash, THP said. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
