On Tuesday, Sept. 30, CHEK will mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with a full day of special programming honouring residential school survivors, their families and the children who never made it home.

The federal statutory holiday coincides with Orange Shirt Day, a grassroots movement that raises awareness of the intergenerational impacts of residential schools.

The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children, and wearing orange on Sept. 30 serves as a reminder that “every child matters.”
