The Marriott Hotel wants travelers to respect their name.

Indeed, the hotel’s chairman David Marriott revealed the correct way to pronounce the popular chain—and it seems customers need to work on their vowel placement.

“I will respond to Marry- ette or Marry- aht , but I’m gonna give you a tutorial on the correct way to say it,” told the crowd at the Marriott Member Day event on Sept. 24, per a TikTok video. “The correct way to say it is actually Marry- ette .”

This correction stunned a few people in the video’s comments section. While one user admitted that “this is the first I have ever heard anyone pronounce it” as Marry- ette , another noted that she “can’t un-learn” the former way she’s said the name.
