CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - As SWATTING continues to make headlines, the FBI is offering a few ways to avoid becoming a victim of the dangerous crime.

“The information they are using to try to SWAT you is generally information that is publicly available on the internet,” said Supervisory Special Agent Michael Miller at the Cleveland FBI office.

SWATTING is when someone calls in law enforcement on a location or home, reporting a fake situation to trigger a SWAT presence.

“They’re strangers to you; they may be located in a different state, they may be located in a different country,” said Miller.

But there are a few things you can do to try to protect yourself from the unseen, unknown criminal.
